Aspen has developed processors for catalytic steam
reforming, auto-thermal reforming, and catalytic partial
oxidation processes.

Aspen Products Group has developed unique materials and processes to reform fuels such as natural gas, alcohols, gasoline, jet fuel and diesel into hydrogen-rich synthesis gases. Depending upon application requirements, steam reforming, autothermal reforming or catalytic partial oxidation can be used to convert the fuel into hydrogen at high conversion efficiency. While steam reforming of natural gas is a well established industrial process, the reforming of higher boiling point liquid fuels, particularly those containing significant amounts of sulfur, is technically challenging. A catalyst capable of withstanding high sulfur content and reforming long chain hydrocarbons while not catalyzing coke formation is required, as is a reaction system that efficiently vaporizes and mixes the fuel with steam. APG reformers have been delivered to military and commercial customers for operation of development fuel cell systems. |
